List the objects before drawing storage

Measure the longest bike, widest handlebar and largest tool you actually own. Include doors opening, a person turning with the bike, wet coats and future charging needs. A storage bay that fits the bike in plan may still be awkward if the path to it crosses a desk or sofa. Mark a route from the garden gate to the storage door and keep the room’s main use clear.

Decide what belongs in the conditioned room

Muddy bikes and garden tools need different surfaces from an office or studio. A separate external compartment can keep wet equipment out of the insulated interior, but its door, drainage, security and roof junction need detailing. If storage is internal, specify a cleanable floor and a way for damp items to dry without creating condensation. Check whether built-in storage reduces the finished internal dimensions you need for the primary use.

Treat security as a system

Ask how a lock, frame, hinges, internal anchor and lighting work together. Confirm where an e-bike battery will be kept and follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions; do not hide chargers in an unventilated cupboard. A quote should identify exactly which security hardware is included and how the storage space can be inspected and maintained.

Put the details into the quote

Provide an equipment list, a simple garden sketch and photos of the access. Ask for a dimensioned storage layout, door clearances, materials, drainage and electrical positions.
